The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan’s premier national tournament, starts on Sunday. Butt will comment from the fourth round of the tournament. However, he will continue to play white ball cricket for the time being.
Butt’s hopes of returning to the national team were largely centered on the test team. The 36-year-old hitter’s international career is over. It is no longer a common cricket in limited overs at home.
Butt was initially named to the Central Punjab team for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, but later retired. Cricket’s website ESPNcricinfo stated the reason for leaving the game and looking forward.

Butt, the then captain of Pakistan, was considered the mastermind of the 2010 spot-arrangement scandal. Butt returned to Pakistan cricket in January 2016 after serving a five-year ban in England and cricket.
Upon his return, Butt scored a century in Pakistan’s ODI National Cup, becoming the second-leading run scorer in the tournament. At that year’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, he led the team to a double century title winner in the final. Since then, he has performed regularly in all editions of national cricket in recent years.
The possibility of his return to the national team has been discussed many times. Butt’s name has been repeatedly considered, especially as he suffers from the higher order of the test team. Then-captain Misbah-ul-Haq, coach Waqar Younis and even then-chief of the board, Shahriar Khan, spoke about Butt’s return in 2016. But Butt’s past has repeatedly gotten in the way. The Pakistani junta mistrusted him due to the arrangements scandal. So he didn’t get a chance.
Butt has played 33 tests, 7 ODI and 24 T20I for Pakistan. He has led in 5 tests.
