France has summoned Turkey’s ambassador following insulting comments from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The psychiatric treatment of French President Emmanuel Macho is necessary because of his attitude towards Muslims and Islam, France announced in response to Erdogan’s comments. Erdogan made the remarks at a provincial rally of his AK Party in the Turkish city of Kayseri on Saturday.
France has been embroiled in controversy since Islamist extremists assassinated a history teacher for showing cartoons in a free speech class. After the incident, French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated his commitment to continue the fight against Islamic separatism. He says that this separatism seeks to establish control over Muslim communities in France. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan harshly criticized the French president’s statement.
At a party conference, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: “What is wrong with this man named Makhon about Islam and Muslims?” Macron needs treatment on a mental level. “What can be said is that a head of state does not understand freedom of belief and is treating millions of people living in his country with different beliefs in that way,” he said.
Both Turkey and France are members of the Western NATO military alliance. However, the two countries have contradictory positions on various international issues. These issues include Syria, Libya, the sovereignty of the eastern Mediterranean, and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
