In Narail, a retired private university professor named Arun Roy (62) was murdered at his home. The incident took place in the village of Benahati in Narail Sadar upazila.
It is believed that he was killed by gunmen on Thursday night (October 22). The matter was announced on Friday (October 23) around 8pm. The police have visited the place.
Arun Roy is the husband of Niva Rani Pathak, Deputy Director, Department of Secondary and Higher Education (Maushi), Khulna Region.
According to villagers and family sources, retired university professor Arun Roy lived alone in the Benahati village of the Tularampur union in Sadar upazila. He has a son, an engineer and a daughter, a doctor. Due to his job, his wife and children lived outside the district. Every now and then they came home from vacation. Niva Rani Pathak and her son Indrajith Roy came home at night after receiving no response from Arun Roy all day on Friday. They broke down the door of the two-story building going up the stairs and entered the house and found his body with its neck cut off on a chair.
Locals said that many people saw Arun Roy drinking tea at a local tea shop on Thursday night. The criminals are believed to have killed him on the second floor of the house at night.
According to the locals, Arun Roy was a very polite person.
The president of the Tularampur union, Bulbul Ahmed, said Arun Roy lived alone at home. The incident is expected to take place Thursday night.
Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (CO) Ilias Hossain said: “I arrived at the scene around 8pm after receiving the news.” The malefactors massacred and killed him. However, the cause of the murder is under investigation.
He said the body was sent to Narail Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
