Sadia, 10, a maid of Sherpur Sreebardi League leader Upazila Awami, died while undergoing torture treatment.
He died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital around 5 p.m. Friday after a month-long treatment. Sadia is the daughter of Saiful Islam from Munsipara village in Parveen upazila.
According to the police and Sadia’s family, Ahsan Habib Shakil, son of the president of the Sreebardi League Upazila Awami and former president of Upazila Parishad Ashraf Hossain Khoka, lives with his wife and children in a rented house on the sixth floor of the Bithi tower. in the city.
Sadia Parveen has been working as a domestic worker in her home for almost a year. Shakil’s wife, Romanian Zaman Jhumur, used to physically abuse the maid under various pretexts since she joined the job.
The level of torture increases day by day as the relatives did not take any action despite knowing the matter. If the child’s condition worsened due to his physical abuse, he would be taken to the district and upazila hospitals from time to time for treatment.
On September 26, the boy’s condition deteriorated due to blows to the body and injuries to the genitals. Upon receiving the news, the police rescued the boy from the sixth floor of the Bithi Tower and admitted him to the Upazila Sadar Hospital.
Seeing that Sadia’s condition was critical, the doctor on duty sent her to Sherpur Sadar Hospital and from there to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Sadia died around 5 p.m. on October 23 after being under treatment for about a month.
Police arrested Romanian Zaman Jhumur, 35, wife of Ahsan Habib Shakil, deputy general secretary of the Upazila Awami League, on September 26 in connection with the incident. Saiful Islam, the father of abused girl Sadia Parveen, filed a case under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act. Romanian Zaman Jhumur is in jail in that case.
Sadia Parveen’s father, Saiful Islam, said: “My daughter Sadia died while receiving treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.” I demand exemplary punishment for those involved in my daughter’s death.
Said the senior assistant superintendent of police. Jahangir Alam said: “I have heard of the death of the child as a result of torture.” Further steps will be taken in this regard according to the law.
