A housewife from the Khaikra area of Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur has been accused of raping her for 13 years by taking her hostage with Tk 6 lakh for buying land. Farooq, 45, is alleged to have been raping the housewife’s only son for fear of posting a video of the murder and rape.
On Friday (October 23), the Kaliganj Police Station Inspector (Operations) Mozammel Haque confirmed the matter and said that a case had been brought against Farooq, son of the late Fazr Ali from the Khaikra area of Kaliganj in Gazipur. An attempt is being made to arrest him.
According to the complainants, Farooq entered the housewife’s home around 6 pm on Thursday (October 22) and tried to rape her again by threatening to kill her. The son of the housewife was at home that day. When he started protesting and screaming, Farooq threatened to kill his housewife and son within four days.
The son of the housewife gave details of the incident on his own Facebook ID and demanded justice from those concerned. The boy said he and his mother were at risk of being killed. He is a student of a public university in Dhaka in the academic year 2017-18.
According to the complaint, the husband of the housewife has been working abroad since 1995. He used to come to the country for a few days every three years. In 2006, Farooq took 7 lakh rupees from a housewife to buy land in the capital. The money was given to Farooq by collecting interest on his father’s house. After that, Farooq started making bad offers at different times promising to buy the land. At one point, the boy was raped year after year for fear of being killed, was not reimbursed, and the video went viral.
Kaliganj Police Station Inspector (Operations) Mozammel Haque said the case has been shelved. The case is under investigation. The homemaker’s health exam is in progress. Efforts to detain the accused continue to provide security to the complainants.
