Two sisters have committed suicide by hanging themselves at Daulatpur in Kushtia. Police recovered their bodies in the Aria Kamarpara area of Aria Union in upazila around 5 p.m. on Friday (October 23).
The deceased have been identified as Mukta, 15, daughter of Muazzem Sardar from the Aria Kamarpara area and Ruma, 25, daughter of her cousin Muntaz Ali Sardar.
According to locals, Mukta was the co-defendant in the rape case of her cousin (18). Mukta and her cousin got into a fight on Friday afternoon. Due to this, Mukta committed suicide by hanging himself on the wall of his house around 12 noon.
Meanwhile, Ruma, who was married in Mirpur, arrived at her father’s home in Aria Kamarpara on Friday morning. He also became involved in disputes while protecting Mukta at his home. After hearing that Mukta had committed suicide by hanging, Ruma also committed suicide by hanging on the wall of her brother’s house around 1pm. Upon receiving the news, the Daulatpur police recovered their bodies from the scene.
Daulatpur OC Police (Investigation) Shahadat Hossain said two of her cousins had committed suicide by hanging themselves over a dispute over the case. Their bodies have been recovered for autopsy. A case is being prepared at the police station. It is being investigated if there are any other incidents behind his suicide.
