Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that America’s “era of monopoly power” in the international arena is over. The reason for this, he said, is that there are significant shifts in the balance of power in the world.
He told Moscow-based think tank Valdai Discussion Club in a video link on Thursday that the United States once had “absolute dominance” over the world, but could no longer claim it.
Putin said the era of solving most international problems through negotiations between Washington and Moscow has also ended.
The Russian president said that China and Germany are moving towards becoming superpowers in terms of economic and political power, respectively.
When mentioning the names of Britain and France, Putin said that the role of these two countries in international affairs has also changed significantly.
“Our main concern is not to get sick at his funeral,” Putin warned, referring to influential and powerful countries that still dream of bringing Russia to its knees, despite significant shifts in the balance of power around the world.
However, in his speech, the Russian president expressed interest in holding talks with other countries on various global issues. He even offered a dialogue with the next US administration on cybersecurity, other issues related to nuclear weapons security and control.
