Sonali Bank has come forward with the help of Khairul Islam Khabir (45), a vegetable trader in dire straits with 8 manas (60 thousand taka). Sonali Bank’s Mohammadpur upazila branch of Magura has started depositing its coins.
As of noon on Thursday (October 22), the banking authorities had collected 3,000 and 2,000 taka worth of coins in Khabir. All coins will be deposited in phases.
Earlier, when the news was published in the media with the headline “Businessman in trouble with that mental coin,” concerned authorities were shocked. Later, Ramananda Pal, an official from Mohammadpur Upazila Nirbahi (UN), came forward to solve the problem. He discussed the matter with the official of the Khulna branch of the Bank of Bangladesh. Then Sonali Bank began accepting coins under his direction.
The manager of the Mohammadpur Upazila Sonali Bank Sadar branch, Abdullah Al Matin, said that a bank account was opened in Khabir’s name. Here you can deposit a thousand taka coins every day. All your coins will be deposited in phases. You can withdraw paper tickets by check later.
In this regard, said small merchant Khairul Islam Khabir, 3-2% of trading capital goes to coins. I was in trouble because there was no transaction. He is very happy to take the coins to the bank.
Over 10 years, 25 paisa, 50 paisa, 1 taka and 2 taka coins were deposited in Khabir, a small merchant. Although the government has not canceled these coin transactions, buyers no longer want to accept them. He got into trouble with this huge amount of coins that became practically obsolete.
The merchant Khabir said that many poor people and beggars bought vegetables with coins. I couldn’t say no to their faces. I couldn’t return them. I couldn’t run the coins even after visiting many places. No bank wants to accept this huge amount of money anymore.
Khabir’s house is in Jangalia village in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura. He is a vegetable merchant in Sadar Bazar. Khabir, son of the late Zahur Fakir of that village.
