It has been raining in different parts of the country including the capital since Thursday morning due to low pressure. The trend of moderate to heavy rains is likely to continue for the next two days, based on the weather forecast.

Senior meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallick said the slight pressure in the Bay of Bengal turned into a distinctly light pressure on Wednesday night. On Thursday, it became more focused, first depressing and then deeper in the afternoon.

At 3 p.m., the deep depression was located 60 km southwest of Chittagong port, 845 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 485 km southwest of Mongla, and 505 km southwest of Payra.

At that time, the maximum continuous wind speed within 48 km of the center of the depression was 50 km per hour, increasing to 60 km in the form of gusts or gusts of wind.

The depression is expected to intensify and move further north, according to a special weather bulletin.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Office is not sure whether this deep depression will eventually turn into a cyclone. However, the Indian Meteorological Department said the cyclone could cross the coast over Sundarbans between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Friday in the form of a deep depression.
