A legal notice has been sent to Professor Ziaur Rahman, Professor in the Department of Criminology at Dhaka University, asking Muslims to use the words “Assalamu Alaikum” and “Allah Hafez” in relation to militancy.
The notification was sent on Thursday (October 22) by Supreme Court attorney Muhammad Sheikh Omar Sharif on behalf of a man named Muhammad Mahbub Alam.
The ad read: “Recently, on a talk show titled ‘Militarism in Misreading Religion’ on the talk show ‘DBC News Television’s Closing Comments’, Jangib described Muslims as’ Assalamu Alaikum’ and ‘Allah Hafez ‘in the correct pronunciation. ” Ziaur Rahman.
But according to Article 41 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, every citizen has the right to practice, practice or propagate any religion. Exchanging greetings correctly is an important act of worship in Islam. The Holy Quran and Hadith have received many instructions to exchange greetings.
According to the instructions and teachings of Allah Almighty and the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), Ziaur Rahman has associated greeting with militancy in a very heinous, reprehensible, disrespectful and heinous way. By making these comments, he sought to undermine the fundamental right of Muslims in Bangladesh to properly conduct religious worship. Such comments are religiously hateful. So his comments have hurt the religious feelings or religious values of Muslim citizens.
The notice further read, “Ziaur Rahman has committed a crime under sections 26 and 29 of the Digital Security Act of 2016 by making religious hate speech on a talk show called Upasanhar on DBC News Television.”
“Therefore, within two days of receiving the notification, Professor Ziaur Rahman has been asked to withdraw his offensive comments on the religious education of Muslim children and to publicly apologize and commit to refrain from such illegal activities in the future. ” Otherwise, legal action will be taken against you under the Digital Security Law and the Penal Code, the notice said.
