According to the Daily Star, seven members of the family died on October 10, five days after eating the poisonous Suantanji. The eighth person died two days later. Finally, Lee, the ninth member of the family to fall ill, died on Monday. This woman named Lee served noodles.
As soon as news of the incident was made public, the Chinese Health Commission issued a warning. It is advisable to avoid these types of foods.
Fortunately, the three children in the family refused to eat the corn noodle meal that day. Suantanji’s soup didn’t make them dislike it. So they survived. Gao Phi Chin, director of food safety at the Heilongjiang Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told the news service that bongracic acid poisoning can be fatal to the body in most cases.
He said that within a few hours of ingesting the fermented foods, symptoms of Bangrekik poisoning appeared. Abdominal pain, excessive sweating, weakness can go from a sick person to a coma. In many cases, it can lead to death within 24 hours. Because of this, this acid damages vital organs such as the liver, kidneys, heart, and brain.
The Daily Star quotes Gao Phi as saying that there is no specific antidote for this type of food poisoning. So once the body is poisoned, the death rate can range from 40 to 100 percent.
This acid is also made from fermented coconut. Due to this terrible poisoning, a few years ago a traditional Indonesian food was banned.
