Nine members of the same family died of poisoning after eating refrigerated noodles
Nine members of a family have died after eating noodles in the refrigerator. On October 5, family members in northeast China became intoxicated after eating fermented noodles called Suantangji. Subsequently, on October 10, seven members of the family died. Two days later the eighth person died and last Monday the ninth member of the family died.
The noodles were served to three children from the same family. However, they refused to eat the noodles because they didn’t like the taste. So they survived.
Gao Fai, director of food safety at the Heilongjiang Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said family members died from toxic poisoning, which is often fatal.
Bangrek acid is highly toxic to the respiratory system, according to a report by the British media Metro. It is produced from fermented coconut.
Gao Phi said: “It can cause serious damage to many human organs, including the liver, kidneys, heart and brain. There is currently no specific antidote for it.
He said symptoms appear within hours of ingesting this acidic food. A person may have abdominal pain, sweating, genetic weakness, and even coma. Even death can occur in 24 hours.
