After declaring the boy dead, his father, Yasin Mollah, told bdnews24.com: “I don’t know. God has taken him away.”

The boy was the second son of Yasin Mollah and Shahinur Begum from Malenga village in Gopalganj Sadar upazila. He was born without surgery last Friday and when doctors pronounced the baby dead, his father Yasin took him to Basila Cemetery in Mohammadpur for burial.

Before burial, the boy became restless and was immediately transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On Saturday, his father told bdnews24.com that his son was “fine.” Admitted to the neonatal ward of the hospital.

He also said that he would name the girl ‘Maryam’.

The hospital director, Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin, said on the same day that an investigative committee would be set up to investigate how the living child was pronounced dead. He also expressed regret for the incident.

In early 2015, after being pronounced dead at Dhaka Medical College, the incident of a newborn moving before burial sparked discussion. The boy was later returned to the hospital and could not be saved with treatment.
