Pressure was mounting on the police to act. PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz, wife of Muhammad Safdar and daughter of Nawaz Sharif, held a press conference on Monday.
He said the police chief’s phone was seized. He was taken to the Sector Commander’s office. He was forced to sign an arrest warrant.
The chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has publicly called on the army and intelligence chiefs to investigate the matter.
He complained that the incident had crossed the red line. Meanwhile, large numbers of police officers from Sindh province went on strike on Tuesday in protest at the kidnapping of police officer Meher.
On Wednesday, Sindh’s Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said: “The state police are going through a very difficult time. Right now, the state government is on the side of the Sindh police.
