The police arrested Ruhul Amin Gazi, president of the Federal Union of Journalists of Bangladesh (FUJ) and chief reporter for the daily Sangram. He was arrested on Wednesday (October 21) at Sangram’s office in Maghbazar.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) Walid Hossain confirmed the matter. He said the court issued an injunction against Ruhul Amin Ghazi. The police have issued court orders.
It is known that two cases were brought against Ruhul Amin Ghazi under the Digital Security Act. The court issued an injunction against him for failing to appear in court based on the date of the case.
On December 12 last year, the Daily Sangram published a report calling Quader Mollah, who was executed for crimes against humanity, a “martyr.” In protest, some young people took a position in front of Dainik Sangram’s office on the afternoon of December 13 under the banner of Muktijuddha Mancha. At night, they trashed the office and locked the door. They demanded the arrest of the editor and stop the publication of the newspaper.
A day later, Daily Sangram editor Abul Asad and chief reporter Ruhul Amin Gazi were charged under the Digital Security Act. Freedom Fighter Commander Mohammad Afzal brought the case (Case No. 24) to the Hatirjheel Police Station.
A journalist associated with Sangram said Abul Asad and Ruhul Amin Gazi were out on bail in the case. But the court recently canceled the bond and issued a court order. Ruhul Amin Ghazi also knew about the matter.
