A sixth grade schoolgirl was raped in the Tengarjani village of the Ballamjhar Union of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. The girl was raped by her uncle Leon Mia (20) on Tuesday night. The victim is currently in treatment at the Sadar Hospital in the Gaibandha district.
According to the rapist’s family, Bakhate Leon Mia, the son of neighbor Saheb Mia, was an uncle but had for a long time been making immoral offers to the girl on several occasions to seduce her. Although Leon’s family was informed about this more than once, they did not take any action. On Tuesday night, since there was no electricity in the house, the girl went next door to watch television. Around 8 p.m., when the girl was returning home after watching television, León, who had been lurking outside the house, tied her face with a towel and took her to a nearby house under construction and raped her. At this point, when the people around him came forward, Leon fled in fear and threatened to kill him. The girl was later rescued in blood and admitted to the Gaibandha district hospital by her relatives. The victim’s father has filed a case with the Sadar police station.
