SI Hasan Uddin has been fired for helping SI Akbar escape and destroy CCTV camera footage following the death of Raihan Ahmed in torture at the Bandarbazar police post in Sylhet town. He has been taken into police custody of SMP.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) (DC-North) Deputy Commissioner Azbahar Ali Sheikh fired him at around 5pm on Wednesday.
SMP (Media) Additional Deputy Commissioner BM Asraf Ullah Taher confirmed the incident.
By the way, on October 11, Raihan (33), a resident of the Neharipara area of the city, was captured at the Bandarbazar outpost in Sylhet and tortured for money. He died in the morning. Tahmina Akhter Tani, wife of the murdered Raihan, filed a lawsuit against the unidentified defendant at the Sylhet Kotwali Police Station on Sunday night.
The victim’s wife mentioned in the case that Raihan died due to police torture at the Bandarbazar outpost.
On October 11, a committee headed by SMP Deputy Commissioner (DC-North) Azbahar Ali Sheikh was formed to investigate torture at the Bandarbazar police post on the night of October 10. The investigation committee found evidence in the preliminary investigation into Raihan’s death due to police torture at the Bandarbazar outpost.
On the recommendation of the investigation committee, SI Sheriffs Akbar Hossain Touhid Mia, Titu Chandra Das and Harunur Rashid, in charge of the port outpost, were suspended for their direct involvement in the torture. ASI Ashek Elahi, Qutb Ali and Sheriff Sajeeb Hossain were removed from the Bandarbazar outpost to capture Raihan.
SI Akbar Hossain escaped, but the other six were under strict security at the police line.
