Several companies, including the Bashundhara Group, will pay 2,000 rupees a month to the ship’s workers.

Dhaka: Bashundhara Group and some other large industrial companies in the country have supported workers on freight ships. It has been announced that it will provide a food allowance of Taka 2,000 per person per month to the workers and employees of these organizations.

In addition to the Bashundhara Group, other companies that have announced assignments at the same rate are Abul Khair Group, City Group and Meghna Group. More groups can agree to pay the allowance before Tuesday (October 19) afternoon.

Meanwhile, to stop extortion and robbery on the waterways, to guarantee the payment of wages to the ship’s workers according to the gazette announced in 2016, to provide a landing pass and food allowance to the workers bound for the India, to fix compensation of Tk 10 lakh for workers killed in work accidents and to provide employment, identity card and service book. The Maritime Transport Workers Federation has called a strike to demand 11 points, including Dewa.

The national strike began at midnight on Monday. Workers have claimed that more than two lakhs of workers have stopped working across the country. As a result, the transport of goods through different waterways in the country has been stopped. It has also affected ports. The movement of goods also became almost non-existent due to the closure of lighter vessels. Chittagong has been the hardest hit.
