Bipake Khabir with 8 Mana Coins

Magura: Khairul Islam Khabir, 45, a small merchant in Magura’s Mohammadpur upazila, is in trouble with a 60,000 taka coin that weighs around six pounds.

Khairul Islam Khabir is known to have been trading vegetables in Mohammadpur Sadar for the past 25 years.

In the last 10 years, from 25-50 paise taken from the buyer, 1-2 taka coins have been deposited and now it is around 60 thousand taka. He took the coins from the buyer, but no one takes them away now. As a result, you have problems with this multi-denomination 6 pound coin that has become obsolete.

Khairul, a vegetable trader, lives in the village of Sadar upazila in Jangalia. When you took these coins as the price of vegetables, you didn’t realize that they would somehow become stale and freeze.

Businessman Khairul told banglanews that many poor people and beggars bought vegetables with coins. I couldn’t say no to their faces. I couldn’t return them. I couldn’t run the coins even after visiting many places. No bank wants to accept this huge amount of money anymore.

Now, in Khairul’s small living room, four large plastic buckets and two sacks are loaded with only coins and coins. He once kept the coins on the market, but now he has brought them home.

Khabir lamented that two-thirds of business capital is now trapped in coins. I am in trouble with a family of four, including my wife and two sons and daughters. I would have benefited a lot if I had paid for these coins.

Mofazzal Hossain Mollah, chairman of Mohammadpur Bazar Banik Samiti, told banglanews: “We know that Khabir has a currency problem.” It goes without saying that currencies are no longer used in transactions. Even then, the matter will be resolved by talking to the competent authorities.

Magura Sonali Bank (AGM) Deputy Managing Director Rashidul Islam said he would bring the matter to the attention of higher authorities.
