Hundreds of Bangladeshis have taken refuge in an abandoned factory in Velika Kladusa, Bosnia, without being in a refugee camp run by the UN refugee agency, IOM. Despite the inhumane situation, they are desperate to return to Europe without returning to the country.

I came here after spending a lot of money. Our dream is to go to Italy, Spain. We will never return to the country; This is how Bangladeshis living in an abandoned factory in the Velika Kladusa area of Bosnia responded to Deutsche Welle.

Hundreds of Bangladeshis are now stranded in the border region with Europe. Deutsche Welle’s Arafatul Islam and Anupam Dev Kanun are there to find out how they are doing. On Sunday morning they spoke with Bangladeshis who are sheltering in a forest. A short drive away is a refugee camp run by the UN refugee agency, IOM. Hundreds of Bangladeshis have taken refuge in a nearby abandoned factory without a chance to stay there.

They are huddled in the building surrounded by trash inside the forest. They described the experience of unspeakable hardship in winter and rain on a broken roof and installation without walls.

Many have already tried several times to cross the border into Europe. But most of them returned to the police obstruction. Some have also complained of being tortured by the police while crossing the border.

When asked if he would return to the country if the government cooperated, they said that his dream was to go to Italy-Spain. In no way will they abandon this dream.

Hundreds of Bangladeshis have taken refuge in tents in the jungle on a hillside on the border between Croatia and Bosnia. They live an inhuman life due to the severe cold, the lack of food and the water crisis. There, a Bangladeshi named Mohammad Yasin said: ‘I came to Iran by speedboat from Oman and from there I came to Greece via Turkey. I came to Bosnia from Greece. I’ve been in this forest for four months. The last time I tried to enter Croatia was three days ago. At that moment I entered (Croatia). But the police caught me. The police took everything from me. Just send me back here in my underwear.
