Three policemen have testified in court regarding Raihan’s death in police custody at the Bandar Bazar outpost in Sylhet. They testified under Section 164 in Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrates Court on Monday. They are police officers Saidur Rahman, Delwar Hossain and Shamim Mia. They made the statement as eyewitnesses to Raihan’s torture.

The investigator of the case, Inspector Mahidul Islam of the Police Investigation Bureau (PBI) confirmed the news. However, he expressed his inability to say anything about the statements of the three in court.

It is known that yesterday at 3 pm Metropolitan Additional Chief Magistrate Magistrate. PBI, the investigative agency in the case, brought the three officers from the Bandar Bazar outpost to Jihadur Rahman’s court. They testified in court as witnesses in the Raihan murder case. The statement was taken for about an hour and a half until 4:30 pm.

By the way, Raihan Ahmad is a resident of the Neharipara area in Akhalia. Raihan was picked up at midnight on 10 October and detained at the Bandarbazar outpost below the Kotwali Police Station. He died the next morning. During the torture, a policeman called Raihan’s family from his mobile phone and demanded money. The following day, Raihan’s wife, Tahmina Akhter, filed a case under the Torture and Death in Custody (Prevention) Act.

A three-member committee headed by Sylhet (North) Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Azbahar Ali Sheikh initially investigated and confirmed Raihan’s death in police custody. In this incident, on 12 October, four people, including SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan in charge of the outpost, were suspended and three others were removed from the outpost. Since then, the main defendant SI Akbar has escaped. The case was handed over to PBI on October 13.
