Pakistan’s opposition leaders are protesting against the resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan. More than 10,000 opposition leaders and activists gathered in Karachi on Sunday.

Previously, 11 opposition parties, including the main opposition, formed an alliance called the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to launch a national movement against the government of Imran Khan. The alliance was formed late last month.

At Sunday’s rally, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and the daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, criticized Imran Khan and accused him of tarnishing the image of the Pakistani military to cover up the government failure.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and Pakhtunkhwa Chairman Milli Awami Mahmud Achakji addressed the meeting.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto alleged that Imran Khan had betrayed the people of Karachi by announcing an incredible package to build a housing colony and occupy two islands. He also criticized the political leaders of the ruling party.

The coronavirus epidemic has affected the Pakistani economy and the rest of the world. Inflation has reached double digits there. The opposition parties are blaming the Imran Khan government for this.

The term of the Imran Khan government is two years. The next national elections in Pakistan are scheduled for 2023.
