It has been alleged that the BCL attacked the BNP prayer meeting and clothing distribution in Rupganj in Narayanganj. At least 20 people were injured in the incident, including Mahmudur Rahman Manna, coordinator of Citizens’ Unity, Taimur Alam Khandaker, adviser to the president of BNP, and his daughter Mar-i-Yam Khandaker, member of the executive committee of the Bar Association of the Supreme Court.
The incident took place at 5:15 pm Monday at the ancestral home of Taimur Alam Khandaker in the Ruposhi area of upazila.
Eyewitness Makshudul Alam Khandaker, Councilor of Narayanganj City Corporation and Chairman of Mahanagar Juba Dal, told Khorshed The Daily Star: Mahmudur Rahman Manna, convenor of Citizens’ Unity, was present as the main guest under the chairmanship of Mosharraf Hossain, Secretary General from Central Juba Dal.
Also present were Mostakur Rahman Mostaq, co-chair of the Central Volunteer Party, Taimur Alam Khandaker, his daughter Mar-i-Yam Khandaker and many others. Hundreds of villagers were also present, including leaders and activists.
He said: “About an hour after the start of the program, 50-60 people led by Rupganj League President Thana Chhatra, Faisal Sikder, attacked with Ramda, hockey sticks and sticks. Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Taimur Alam and their daughter Mar-i-Yam were removed from the stage. Chairs, tables and sound systems on stage were smashed. At least 20 people were injured in Ramadan. The attackers destroyed several cars and motorcycles off stage.
Taimur Alam Khandaker told The Daily Star: ‘The attack was led by BCL President Faisal Sikder. Mahmudur Rahman Manna was beaten with a stick.
Rupganj Police Officer in Charge (CO) Mahmudul Hasan told The Daily Star: “No such complaint has yet been received. We are investigating the matter.
Denying the allegations, Rupganj League Thana Chhatra President Faisal Sikder told The Daily Star: “We did not attack. Those from other organizations, including the Chhatra League and the Juba League in the area, wanted to know what was going on. The ceremony was later canceled, the accusation of attack is false.
