Police arrested a young man named Khairul Alam Sabuj while fleeing to India after raping his friend’s wife in Kapasia, Gazipur.
A team led by Gazipur DB SI Ahsan arrested him at a hotel in Bandarban on Sunday night in a tip.
Khairul Alam Sabuj is the son of the late Shukkur Ali from the village of Safaishri in Kapasia. He is a gas trader by profession. He is the second defendant in the rape case.
Kapasia Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam said Khairul Alam Sabuj, accused in the rape case, was handed over to Kapasia Police Station on Monday. He has been sent to court for 7 days in preventive detention.
According to sources in the case, the author of the document Mahfuzur Rahman worked as an assistant to Russell Mollah, a man from the village of Safaishri. Russell Mollah went to the man’s home on December 3, 2019 at around 11pm. Russell Mollah forcibly raped his wife when the man was not at home. Russell Mollah recorded the video on his mobile phone. Later, they often raped the woman with Russell’s two friends, Sabuj and Sohail, for fear of posting the video.
The case further establishes that on July 22, Khairul Islam Sabuj raped the woman. The woman’s husband found out. This sparked a family feud. Her husband called the people at his wife’s house and expressed his desire to separate the family. Defendant Russell Mollah, Sabuj, and Sohail went to the woman’s home around 9:30 pm on August 24 and abused her and her husband. At one point, he tried to kill them by displaying weapons. Subsequently, the woman filed a case with the Kapasia Police Station in connection with the incident.
The victim’s husband alleged that Russell Mollah, Sabuj and Sohail had sold the video of the rape to his wife and extorted large sums of money. The video of the rape is now in everyone’s hands. The main defendant in the Russell Mollah case and the other defendant Sohail are still at large.
