College student jumps out of moving car to escape sexual harassment

A college student has been charged with sexual harassment inside an autorickshaw on her way to buy Durga Puja in Sherpur’s Jhenaigati upazila. The incident took place at Kararpar in Sherpur on Sunday afternoon.

According to the police, the student left Ainapur village in a battery-powered autorickshaw at around 10:30 am to go shopping at Durga Puja. At that time there were two passengers including the driver and the student in the autorickshaw. Hanif Mia, 29, a resident of Ainapur village, started sexually harassing the girl when she came to a place called Kararpar on the road. As the level of bullying increased, the girl began to scream. But no one went ahead because the place was empty.

The driver was later asked to stop the autorickshaw, but he did not stop. At one point, the girl jumped off the moving autorickshaw. When he fell to the side of the road and was injured, the autorickshaw driver fell into a fast. After initial treatment, the girl filed a complaint with the Jhenaigati Police Station.

The Jhenaigati Police Officer in Charge (OC) said. Faizur Rahman said: ‘A case has been filed in this incident. A police operation is underway to catch Bakhate Hanif.
