In order to allow freedom fighters to live prosperous lives, a proposal was recently submitted to the Ministry of Finance to increase their monthly fees by Tk 8,000 to Tk 20,000 starting in the 2020-21 fiscal year.

The information was given by the ministry at a committee meeting held in Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday. The meeting was chaired by committee chair Shahjahan Khan and was attended by AQM committee members Mozammel Haque and Kazi Firoz Rashid.

It was reported at the meeting that to implement the ideology and spirit of the Liberation War, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust has awarded scholarships to a total of 3,460 students from 2012-13 to 2016-17 at the rate of Tk 1,000 per person studying education general and Tk 1,500 per person studying medicine and engineering.

It is recommended to present the detailed information of the scholarship recipients to the Ministry at the next meeting to carry out a future plan to check to what extent the ideology and awareness of the Liberation War has been implemented among the scholarship recipients.

In addition, it was recommended to present the detail of income and expenses of the National Council of Freedom Fighters in the next meeting together with the audit report of income and expenses.

He was also asked to take steps to pay the medical expenses of the freedom fighters from the Muktijoddha Welfare Fund at the monthly rate as needed.

Proposal for a virtual meeting of the parliamentary committee: Virtual participation in the meetings of the parliamentary committee will be proposed due to the coronavirus epidemic. Speaker Dr. The parliamentary committee will make a proposal to Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.

The proposal was made after a meeting of the parliamentary committee of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, committee chairman Shahjahan Khan said.

“There are some high-level members on our committee,” he told reporters. Many are unable to attend meetings due to their age. Again, many cannot come because of this crown.

Debates in the parliamentary committee will be lively if they can participate virtually. We will send the proposal to the Speaker. That will be the decision you will make.

It is known that despite the fact that the parliamentary commission meeting began after being closed for a few months due to the corona virus, the functioning of the parliament does not go according to the rules. Most committees do not agree to hold one meeting a month.

Attendance at meetings is also much lower. Only three out of ten members of the parliamentary commission were present at Sunday’s meeting. The quorum is only if there are three members on the parliamentary commission. Previously, the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts concluded in just 20 minutes.

As most of the members of this committee are elders, the meeting hastily concluded for fear of being attacked by Karona.
