Madrasa activities are suspended after ‘distortion’ of the national anthem, video goes viral

Students at Dakshin Para Madrasa, recently opened in the Siddheswari village of Muradnagar, Comilla, sang a song ‘distorting’ the melody and lyrics of the national anthem. The upazila administration suspended the madrasa’s activities after its video went viral on social media.

Abhishek Das, executive officer of Muradnagar Upazila (UN), confirmed the matter to the media. He said: ‘After watching the video, the president and general secretary of the Siddheswari Dakshin Para Jame mosque were called to the upazila office. The madrasa was inaugurated last September on the premises of the Siddheswari Dakshin Para Jame mosque. He does not have a permit, so the upazila administration suspended its activities and informed the deputy commissioner.

The UN added: “The teacher who was directly involved in the distortion of the national anthem was not found in the madrasa. However, he contacted Upazila Nirbahi’s officer by phone and apologized for the mistake. He also said that the video was removed from his account through social media.

Muradnagar Police Inspector (investigation) Nahid Ahmed said: ‘I myself went to the madrasa premises. I have informed the mosque authorities about the decision to close the madrasa. They have also been told to act on his next instructions.

Alim Bhuiyan, Treasurer of the Siddheswari Dakshin Para Jame Mosque Committee in Muradnagar, said: “The madrasa was inaugurated in September. The upazila administration has detained him on charges of distorting the national anthem. However, the normal activities of the mosque will continue.
