The murder of Hasila Bewa (45), a widowed beggar in Dhunte, Bogra, has been revealed. After failing to rape her, two GNC drivers asphyxiated her to death.
The two GNC drivers made a confessional statement in the court of Bogra’s Senior Judge Khalid Hasan on Sunday night. They were later sent to jail.
The Dhunat OC Kripa Sindhu Bala Police Station confirmed the incident.
The confessed CNG autorickshaw drivers are Badsha Alam, 35, son of Samsul Mandal from Anarpur Kachugari village in Kalerpara, union of Dhunat upazila and Fazlul Haque, 32, son of Badu Mandal of Anarpur Hattapara.
According to police and judicial sources, Hasila Bewa is the daughter of Shukra Mandal from Ghugrapara village in Dhunat. She has lived in her father’s house since her husband died about 25 years ago. Her son Hashem Ali works as a laborer in his aunt’s house. On the morning of October 12, Hasila Bewa went out to the village to beg with her older sister Dhali Begum, Mozam’s wife from the same village. In the evening, Hasila returned home to her sister Dhali.
Leaving Hasila, Dhali went home to the same village. After a while, Hasila went home to see her sister Dhali. After talking to her older sister there, Hasila went home. On the morning of October 13, Hasila’s body was found hanging from a cloth in a fallen rice field about 500 meters from her home. Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. In this regard, Sister Dhali Begum filed a murder case against unknown persons at the Dhunat police station.
OC Kripa Sindhu Bala and other officials said that GNC coach drivers Badsha Alam and Fazlul Haque were arrested at their respective homes on the basis of Hasila Bewar’s mobile phone call list.
During preliminary questioning, they confessed to the murder and revealed the names of several others involved. They grabbed Hasila from the road and took her to the field. Without success in the rape, they killed her by hanging a handkerchief around her neck and leaving her body at the scene.
When Badshah Alam and Fazlul Haque were brought before the court, they gave confessional statements under article 164. They were subsequently sent to Bogra prison. The murder of the beggar widow Hasila has been revealed in a short time, bringing relief to her relatives and villagers.
