The court set November 15 for the presentation of the investigation report in the defamation case filed against actress Shami Kaiser for calling journalists ‘thieves’. On Sunday (October 18), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman set a new date for the presentation of the report.

The investigative report in the case was scheduled to be released Sunday. But the investigating agency in the case, the Police Investigation Bureau (PBI), did not present the investigation report. For this reason, after the hearing, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, Ziaur Rahman, set a new date for the presentation of the report.

Court presenter Rakib Chowdhury told the Bengali Tribune this information.

On November 25 last year, PBI re-investigated the case and submitted a report in response to the allegation of the plaintiff Nuzhatul Hasan.

Early on October 24 last year, the investigating officer on the case, Shahbagh Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mahbub Rahman, filed a report with the court saying that he had not found the truth of the plaintiff’s allegation in case. On the same day, the plaintiff expressed his distrust (dislike) of the report and informed the court that he would request the investigation report again.

On April 30 of last year, Nuzhatul Hasan, editor of the Student Journal BD, filed a defamation lawsuit against actress Shami Kaiser under Section 500 of the Penal Code. According to the statement, the defendants’ conduct was highly defamatory and insulting to the plaintiffs and other sectors of society, including the country’s journalists. The plaintiffs and journalists have suffered irreparable harm as the issue of their conduct was publicized in online media. The accused has tarnished the plaintiff’s image in the eyes of the country and the nation by calling journalists thieves.

On April 24 last year, two Shami Kaiser smartphones were stolen at the opening ceremony of the e-commerce-based tourism site ‘Bindu365’ at the National Press Club. About 50 photojournalists, video cameramen and hundreds of people were present at the event.
