Iran has no other barriers to arms sales. The country will be able to buy or sell arms from any country starting Sunday (October 16) when the UN arms embargo is automatically lifted.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in an official statement Sunday morning.

The statement said Iran would be able to buy and sell weapons and military equipment from any country as needed from October 16 without any legal impediment. The international community has thwarted all US efforts to uphold the Iran nuclear deal and UN Security Council Resolution 2231. Resolution 2231 makes clear that on October 16, 2020, an automatic and definitive arms embargo on Iran will be lifted. And for that, no official announcement from the UN Security Council is necessary.

The statement called on the United States to refrain from attempting to take action against Iran, despite protests from the international community.

The UN arms embargo on Iran was lifted at 3:30 a.m. Tehran time on Sunday, in accordance with Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with six nations, including the United States, and Security Council resolution 2231.
