Bangladesh is ahead of India and Pakistan in the world hunger index. Bangladesh ranks 65th among neighboring countries. On the other hand, Myanmar is at number 6 and Pakistan at number 7. Among other neighboring countries, Nepal is ranked 63 and Sri Lanka is ranked 74. India is ranked 94 on this list. Last year, India was ranked 102nd out of 116 countries.

The Global Hunger Index 2020 has published a statistic based on 108 countries. On Friday, they released a report based on the 2020 hunger index.

At 94 on the list, 14 percent of India’s population is undernourished. 3.6 percent of children under the age of five die.
At the top of the list are countries like China, Belarus, Ukraine, Turkey, Cuba, and Kuwait. Their positions range from one to five. However, three African countries, the Moon, Madagascar and Timor-Leste, are in a worrying place in terms of satisfying hunger.

According to the index, the levels of hunger and malnutrition in South Asia and Africa are extremely worrying. They are 27.0 and 26.6, respectively, in terms of the hunger index.

Purnima Menon, senior researcher at the International Food Policy Research Institute, said that some large states, such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, need to reduce malnutrition. Only then will India be able to improve on the Global Hunger Index.

According to him, one in five children in India is born in Uttar Pradesh. He said India’s position on the world hunger index would decline if more people went hungry in the most populous states.

The stunting of children in India means that the rate of sick children in the country is 36.4 percent. The lowest prevalence of underweight in children under five years of age (Child Westing) is most pronounced in South Asia. In India, the incidence rate is 18.3 percent. In 2019 it was 20.7 percent.

The World Hunger Index judges different countries according to a number of criteria, such as malnutrition, infant mortality, and the underweight of children under five years of age.
