The movement is escalating to demand the arrest and execution of SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan and others involved in the murder of Raihan Ahmed at the Bandar Bazar police post in Sylhet. Every day, agitated people carry out demonstrations, human chains and block roads in different parts of the city. Anger is mounting because no one has been arrested in connection with the murders. After handing over the investigation of the case to the Police Investigations Directorate (PBI), they continue with their activities. A PBI team visited the Bandarbazar police post, the city delivery house and the victim’s home.

Meanwhile, on Thursday the body was collected from the grave and the autopsy was carried out again. PBI has also detained a street sweeper named Billu Das for questioning in connection with the Raihan murder case. Billu Das, the son of Kachua Lal Vijay, was taken from Sweeper Colony in the Kastghar area of the city for questioning on Friday afternoon.

Another street sweeper, Sulai Lal, said the PBI had brought him in earlier for questioning.

In a media interview, Sulai Lal said: “That night, last Sunday, the police took Raihan Ahmed (30) from my house in good condition.”

“I slept that night,” he said. Suddenly the sound of the door woke me up. I looked and saw the boy (Raihan) pushing and knocking on the door and he entered the room. I was scared in my mind. Who came pushing my door so late at night? I asked him, who are you brother? Then I saw that the child could not breathe, could not speak. In five minutes the police arrived. The police entered the house and arrested Raihan. But he didn’t want to go and he said, ‘I’m not a thief.’ I was in no condition to say anything out of fear. “

Sulai Lal added: “The boy was taken from my house in good condition. The next day I learned that the boy had been beaten to death. It really bothered me to listen. However, there are no massive beatings here, I’m sure.

ASI Ashiq Elahi is known to have caught Raihan at the Bandarbazar police post at 2:09 pm on the night of the incident. He was then taken to the room of Sub-Inspector (SI) Akbar. There they beat him with sticks.

According to the relevant sources, officers Harun and Titu became very angry with Akbar and beat Raihan. At that time, Ashiq Elahi forbade SI Akbar from killing Raihan. But Akbar didn’t hear him. Raihan fell seriously ill in the early hours of the night due to inhumane torture at the police post. He died at Osmani Medical College Hospital. The victim’s wife filed a murder case at the Kotwali Police Station.
