A Chittagong RAB-6 team arrested four people in a raid in PMkhali and other locations in Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar on charges of raping a teenage girl. The detainees have been turned over to the Cox’s Bazar model police station. They were sent to jail by the court on Friday (October 18).

The rescued girl was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, said Sheikh Munir-ul-Gias, Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station.

Those arrested are Shahab Uddin, son of Abdul Gani of Kharulia, president of Para in Cox’s Bazar Sadar, his associates Arman Hossain of Pekua Ujantiar, Nurul Alam of Kharuskul Hatkholapara and Lokman of Pencharghona.

The mother of a Tomtom driver from Jumchhari in PMkhali of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila has been detained for a month and a half on the charge of rape and torture. After lending 35,000 rupees, the driver of the tomtom driver was detained by force instead of receiving the money on time and was raped and physically and mentally tortured. Cox’s Bazar model police were unable to rescue the girl that afternoon. Later, RAB-7 went to the field to rescue the girl.

The girl’s mother said that Shahabuddin, son of Abdul Gani of Kharulia Chairman’s Para, had an affair with PMkhali West Jumchhari’s tomtom driver at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila while driving the tomtom. On that occasion Shahabuddin used to come and go to his house regularly. He borrowed 35,000 rupees from Tomtom’s driver, Shahabuddin, as the girl’s father needed money. He couldn’t pay that money into Tanaporen’s family.

On this occasion, Shahabuddin forcibly removed his teenage daughter from the house with the help of people. He made it clear that he would not return the money if he did not return it. Later, the girl’s mother contacted the local member and member of Kharulia, Abdur Rashid, several times to rescue her. The girl could not be rescued. Later, her mother called 999 and asked him to rescue her.

When the matter was brought to the attention of the Cox Bazaar Model Police Station, a police team led by SI Mansur from the Cox Bazaar Model Police Station raided the home of Tomtom Shahabuddin’s driver in Kharulia Chairman for on October 11. As the news of the raid was known in advance, Shahabuddin and members of his family fled with the girl. Later, a Chittagong RAB-7 team carried out an operation on October 15 and arrested Shahabuddin and his three associates.

Kharulia member Abdur Rashid said Tomtom’s driver Shahabuddin had committed incidents involving women before.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Officer in Charge (CO) Sheikh Munir Ul Gias said those arrested were sent to jail through a court on Friday. The girl’s mother has filed a case with the police station.
