Witness street sweeper Sulai Lal said that Raihan Ahmed, who was tortured in police custody in Sylhet, was taken to the Bandarbazar outpost in good health that night (Sunday (October 11)).

Describing the incident, street sweeper Sulai Lal said that the boy was taken from my house in good condition. That night he was asleep. Suddenly the sound of the door woke me up. I looked and saw that the boy (Raihan) had entered the room knocking on the door. I was scared in my mind. Who came pushing my door so late at night? I asked him: who are you brother? Then I saw that the child could not breathe, could not speak. In five minutes the police arrived. The police entered the house and arrested Raihan. But he didn’t want to go and told me: I’m not a thief. He was in no condition to say anything out of fear.

Sulai Lal said that the police took the boy from my home in good condition. The next day I learned that the boy had been beaten to death. It really bothered me to listen. But there were no massive beatings here, I’m sure.
Police arrested him in good condition, said Sulai Lal, son of the late Dil Molly Lal of Sweeper Colony.

There were no mass beating incidents that day at the delivery house. The preliminary investigation did not find any evidence of massive beatings on the CCTV footage. This is the statement of Sulai Lal, the delivery house sweeper who witnessed the incident.

Raihan was also physically healthy before the torture. He died from excessive torture. After the second autopsy, the head of the forensic department at Osmani Medical College confirmed this to reporters. Shamsul Islam.

ASI Ashiq Elahi arrested Raihan at the Bandarbazar police post at 2:09 pm on the night of the incident. He was then taken to the room of Police Superintendent (SI) Akbar. There they beat him with sticks. Agents Harun and Titu sent Raihan to be very enthusiastic about Akbar. At that time, Ashiq Elahi forbade SI Akbar from killing Raihan. But Akbar didn’t hear him. A witness from the outpost confirmed the information.

Raihan, who was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, fell ill after being tortured at a police post on Saturday night. He died at Osmani Medical College Hospital. The victim’s wife filed a murder case at the Kotwali Police Station. After that, four policemen, including Akbar, were fired and another three were removed. SI Akbar has been a fugitive since the Sunday after the incident.

The case was transferred to the Police Investigation Bureau (PBI) at the direction of the police headquarters. After taking over the investigation, the PBI team visited the Bandarbazar police post, the town’s delivery house and the home of the deceased. The body was removed from the grave Thursday and an autopsy was performed again.

The movement is stepping up to demand the arrest and execution of those involved in Raihan’s murder, including SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan. Every day, agitated people have held rallies, human chains and blocked roads in different parts of the city of Sylhet.
