Tehran strongly warned countries struggling for control of Nagorno-Karabakh that missiles and artillery shells could be fired inside Iran. Tehran issued the warning after 10 missiles and projectiles hit several Iranian villages in five hours on Thursday.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh issued the warning Thursday night, saying Tehran will not remain silent if sporadic shelling continues.
He added that such vagaries were not acceptable and that the Iranian armed forces considered their red line to protect the lives and property of people in the border areas.
However, the spokesman denied rumors that Iran had already responded to the missiles and projectiles.
Earlier, Ali Amiri-Rad, governor of Khoda-Afarin county in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, said that 10 missiles had hit the villages of Kolibiglu and Kadkhodalu in his county during fierce clashes between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops on Thursday. . Most of the missiles landed in the open, but one hit a house in the village of Kolibiglu. As a result, part of the house collapsed and an Iranian was injured.
Since the fighting began last month, at least 50 missiles and artillery shells have hit villages in Khoda-Afarin county.
Earlier, the Iranian Foreign Ministry sent a protest letter to Azerbaijan and Armenia. Clashes between the two countries on Iran’s northern border for control of the Nagorno-Karabakh region began on September 27.
