For the first time in the history of the Bangladesh Army, an army officer who has been in a coma in Combined Military Hospital for more than seven years due to physical illness has been promoted.
Lieutenant Colonel Dewan Mohammad Tashawar was promoted to the rank of colonel by the army on 12 October, the last day of Raja’s tenure. The promotion was completed in the hospital room in the presence of their relatives.
He fell into a coma in March 2013 after a heart attack. In the language of medical science, his disease is called “hyposcopic ischemic injury of brain effects.”
Doctors say that the lower part of your brain is fine, but the part of the brain that is involved in human thought and consciousness, the cells in that part, have not healed.
He has been in the Combined Military Hospital since he fell ill. The officer was transferred abroad for treatment, but his condition did not improve much in the end.
Dewan Mohammad Tashawar Raja formally joined the army on June 23, 1969 after receiving a commission in the armored forces. Before suffering a heart attack in 2013, he was director of education.
During his 32-year career, he was also on a UN peacekeeping mission, receiving the Medal of Peace for his outstanding contribution.
He was also a tactical instructor at various Army training schools.
In addition to serving in the military, Dewan Mohammad Tashawar has also written books on various topics. Apart from the history of the army and the biographies of eminent officers, he has also written a book about his predecessor, the king.
Mosleha Munira, wife of Dewan Mohammad Tashawar, thanked the army for providing full-time medical assistance and promotion while Raja Swami was ill.
She told BBC Bangla: ‘Just a month before the promotion, my husband got sick. We all hoped that he would retire as soon as he was promoted. ‘
“We are grateful to the Bangladesh Army for the way they honored him on his retirement day,” said Mosleha Munira.
