The World Hindu Council calls for the demolition of a mosque under construction at the Kumbh Mela facility in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. They have also submitted a memorandum to the Prayagraj administration to that effect. Meanwhile, a new debate has started after the matter came to light.

According to local sources, the leaders of Prayagraj’s Vishwa Hindu Parishad presented a memorandum to the district commissioner on Wednesday asking him to demolish a mosque in Havelia village in Jhansi area. They allege that the mosque, which is located in the Kumbh Mela area, is being built illegally. They have given the district commissioner seven days to stop the construction of the mosque and destroy it. He also said that if demand is not met, he will make a bigger move.

In this regard, World Hindu Council spokesperson Ashwini Mishra said: “Volunteers from the Kashi sect of the World Hindu Council have delivered a memorandum to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (City). The memorandum called for work to stop on an illegally built mosque in the Kumbh Mela area. Some unidentified people are trying to build the mosque illegally to destroy the communal harmony of the city. However, we will not accept this in any way. Police and local administration officials, despite knowing everything about the construction of the mosque, have not yet taken any action.

In November last year, the Supreme Court ordered the construction of a Ram temple on the disputed land in Ayodhya. After that, the Hindutva activist fanatics raised the slogan, ‘Ram Mandir to jhanki hai, avi muthra-kashi baki hai’. Informed neighborhoods think this Prayagraj incident is their example.
