He spoke at a dialogue program hosted by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF), an organization of journalists working in the BT Secretariat, at the Secretariat Media Center on Thursday.

There are many YouTube channels that are broadcasting on various topics online. When asked if there are any guidelines in this regard, the Minister of Information said: “We have invited applications for YouTube or IPTV channel registration. They are under investigation. Preliminary investigation work has started. Once that happens, we will begin to register “.

He said: “At the inter-ministerial meeting it was decided that IPTVs will only act as entertainment channels. It was a decision not to do everything like a normal television channel ”.

Speaking about the ban on broadcasting news via IPTV, the minister said: “You will not be able to broadcast regular news on YouTube and IPTV channels. That is why when a TV channel gets permission, it is not allowed to broadcast news at first. That is why they have to meet some parameters and reapply. Then they are allowed to post the news.

“So in the case of IPTV, they can do everything else, but they can’t do the job of reporting for the moment, it’s not our ministry, it’s the decision of the inter-ministerial meeting. The decision now is that they won’t be able to cover the news. ”.

When asked what kind of decision could be made in the future, Hasan Mahmud said: “The government can make any decision at any time in the context of the situation.” The decision now is that they will not be able to cover the news regularly. “

When asked when the online news portal registration will end, the Information Minister said: “Online registration is in process. We have already given permission for several online registrations. We will give the rest little by little. Since thousands of online will take months to complete. Because only after various investigative agencies give investigative reports, but we can give. I can’t pay earlier. So it takes a little time. ”

“Most of the registration will be done this year,” he said. “Online registration will not end this year. Because many will be posted online in the future.”

The Information Minister said that the permit issue would also be linked to the opening of online news portals in the future. In the future, when we can bring the online registration process to the final stage, we will also add the issue of permission to open online in the future. “

The Chairman of the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum, Tapan Biswas, and Secretary General Shamim Ahmed, along with other leaders of the Executive Committee and Chief Information Officer, Surath Kumar Sarkar, were present at the occasion.
