Dhaka: It is very difficult to control the market and it really cannot be done, said the Minister of Agriculture. Abdur Razzak.
Asked about the government’s initiatives to control the market, he said: “It is very difficult to control.
The police and the administration try. But it really can’t be done. This is a very difficult task for the market demand and its manipulation (traders). But we are trying. We are not playing the role of silent spectators. ”
He was responding to a question at a press conference on World Food Day 2020 and contemporary agriculture in the ministry’s conference room on Thursday (October 15).
He said that traders are earning at least Rs 20 per kg of potatoes going beyond ethics.
The minister said: “The government is working to control the price of potatoes. “
In the same context, he said, “in 20 to 25 days, the price of potatoes will be a little higher. Then when new vegetables arrive, the price will go down. “
At the press conference, the agriculture minister raised questions about the ethics of traders. He said they get Rs 20 per kg of potatoes because there is no morality among the traders. “
During the last days, potatoes are sold in the market at between 50 and 60 Tk per kg. In addition, the prices of other vegetables have also risen. The poor, the lower middle class and the middle class are struggling.
Faced with this situation, the Department of Agricultural Marketing has set the price of potatoes in three stages and sent a letter to all the Deputy Commissioners to implement it.
30 per kg retail, 25 wholesale and 23 cold storage. Failure to sell potatoes at this price will result in disciplinary action by law enforcement and consumer rights authorities.
But in reality, there is no fixed price implementation chart on the market. Potato prices are the same as before. So far no market has been heard of.
