The whole country is now upset by the murder of a young man named Raihan Uddin who was taken to the Bandarbazar outpost in Sylhet and tortured to death. The home of SI Akbar, the main defendant in the case brought on the torture and murder charge, is located in the Durgapur union Bogair village in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria. As a result, Akbar is now also at the center of discussions in his area. Villagers also spoke of their luxurious home.
Akbar is the eldest of three sons and two daughters of Zafar Ali Bhuiyan from Bagair village in Ashuganj district. Akbar, who joined the service as a police officer in 2005, was promoted to the SI position in 2014. One of his brothers works in Singapore. But he often comes to the country.
On Wednesday (October 14) afternoon, a group of journalists visited his village house in Bogair. Going there, you see that a one-story building is decorated in about 15 percent of the space. Work is underway in front of the house for the huge gate. Anagona of several people in the backyard. However, all the doors and windows of the building are conditioned.
If you want to talk to the members of the house, came Arif Hossain Bhuiyan, a sophomore with honors in economics at Brahmanbaria Government College and Akbar’s younger brother. “I don’t think my brother can do such a thing,” he said.
When asked when he had spoken to Akbar, Arif said he last spoke to his older brother Akbar on Sunday. He then told Arif, ‘I’m in danger. There are problems in the office, I tell everyone to pray. Since then there is no communication.
At one time they lived in Purbapara of the village. They sold the house a few years ago and moved into the new house. Arif was asked about the cost of building the house and who paid for it.
Arif was a bit embarrassed by such a question. He then said that his older brother Akbar did not pay for the construction of the house. The house has been built in a few steps with the retirement pension of the retired father and money from another brother, Mubarak Hossain Bhuiyan, who lives in Singapore. He stated that the construction of the house cost around Tk 25 lakh. “This is the property we got from our grandfather,” he added. We have sold another manor house next to ours and built a new one here.
Arif didn’t want to say anything more. Talking to local people to find out about Akbar. Despite trying, no other member of SI Akbar’s household spoke.
The mention of Akbar’s name in such work has also moved his relatives and neighbors. Speaking with some relatives and people from the area who came running from afar, it is understood that they were quite shocked by such accusations against Akbar. They cannot even think that Akbar can do such a thing. They demanded a proper investigation into the incident.
Four people, including SI Akbar, have been suspended for allegedly torturing and killing a young man named Raihan for only Tk 10,000. His relatives are skeptical, so it took Akbar 9 years to become an SI bailiff. Then in the last 5 years, Akbar has had the opportunity to show his skills as a policeman by visiting outposts and police stations. So far he has not been spoken of in his village or at the duty station. So was Akbar outside the usual accusations against the police? Is this the first accusation on their behalf or has something less happened before that they didn’t know about?
Habibullah, a villager, said: ‘No one should be suspended like this. There is surely an event behind that. I hope everything comes out after the investigation. ‘ In response to a question, she said: “Akbar’s brother, who lives in Singapore, often comes to the country. I know your income is not very good. The house that is now being built used to be a rice field, today it is a luxurious building. This is how Akbar is understood. ‘
Some other townspeople said in the context of the allegations against the SI: ‘An incident has occurred. One person died. Akbar has been suspended on suspicion of being involved in the incident. A case has also been presented. As a result, it can no longer be denied. As a result, we demand justice for the incident. If Akbar is not involved, he will be released. If he’s a criminal, there’s no way to call him innocent. ‘
Akbar’s relative and friend. Parvezur Rahman Bhuiyan, however, still believes that Akbar is innocent. When asked, he said: ‘I don’t think it’s possible for Akbar to commit such a murder. We want a proper investigation of the incident. Akbar is a cultured man. You cannot do this.
Amena Begum, a woman from Bagir village, said that Akbar used to have a house in Purbapara of the village. Several years ago Akbar’s father sold the house in the village’s Purbapara to his son (Amena Begum) and he moved to Dakshin Para and built a new house. Akbar is known as a good boy. But outside he doesn’t know what to do.
A man named Mujibur Rahman, from the neighboring village of Durgapur, said he was quick to learn the details of the incident. Two days ago, he learned of all the incidents centered on Akbar from the Internet. But he doesn’t think Akbar can do that.
The officer in charge of Ashuganj Police Station, Jabed Mahmud, said: “I know at Akbar’s home in Bagair village of the Durgapur union. I have no information on Akbar or his family. We have not received instructions from the district police or the police headquarters to learn this information.
Bandarbazar police arrested the young man named Raihan on Saturday afternoon (October 10). The police tortured him at the outpost that night and demanded money to release him. Raihan’s father received his son’s call from an unknown mobile phone in the morning. Raihan said money was required to release him after keeping him at the outpost. Raihan also took money to his father and asked him to rescue him. When his father went to the outpost with money in the morning to save his son, he was informed that Raihan was sleeping now and had to come around 10am. Later in the morning they told him to go to the Sylhet Osmani College of Medicine. There he learns that his son is dead. Then he saw horrible marks of torture on the dead boy’s body. Raihan’s nails were scratched too. Later, the police claimed that Raihan was beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of kidnapping. However, no evidence of this was found in the images of the city corporation. His autopsy was completed at Sylhet Osmani Medical College on Sunday. The police handed over the body to the family of the deceased after conducting an autopsy around 3 in the afternoon. His body was buried in the family cemetery after Janazah after Esha’s prayers. Raihan’s inhumane torture incident in police custody has been debated in the media since Sunday. Tahmina Akhter Tani, the wife of the deceased, filed a murder case with the Sylhet Kotwali Police Station on Monday. In this case, SI Akbar has been charged as the main defendant in the case. Once the case was archived, the investigation was handed over to the Police Investigations Directorate (PBI).
