The police wanted to hide the death of Raihan Ahmed (33) in custody from the beginning. Police also claimed that Raihan had been killed in “rapture” and “mass beating”. But in the end the cat came out of the bag. Four people, including Deputy Inspector (SI) Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan in charge of the outpost, were fired. An autopsy will be carried out soon, said PBI Sylhet Police Superintendent Muhammad Khaled Uz Zaman.
According to the investigation, Raihan was taken to the Bandarbazar outpost and tortured under the leadership of SI Akbar. BM Ashraf Ullah Taher picked up the phone when contacted on Jyotirmoy Sarkar’s mobile again yesterday. He said that SMP’s responsibilities in the media have changed.
