The Tangail Women and Child Abuse Suppression Court sentenced a young man named Nazmul to life imprisonment for a rape case of a young woman in Bhunapur, Tangail. The verdict said that the daughter born as a result of rape will grow up as the father of the young man. The district judge was also ordered to take the necessary measures, including his maintenance.
Judge Khaleda Yasmeen of the Tangail Court for the Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children of Tangail delivered the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.
The condemned Nazmul is the son of Azim Uddin from the village of Bhatura in Nagarpur upazila. He is currently on the run.
Special PP Nasimul Akhter told the Court for Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children that Nazmul raped the woman at her residence No. 4 at Nikrail Union of Bhunapur Upazila on the night of December 6, 2006 in Bhunapur, Tangail. Subsequently, the woman became pregnant and gave birth to a girl. Later, Nazmul said that he would not marry the woman.
The court rendered the verdict after the woman brought a case to the Tangail Abuse of Women and Children Suppression Court.
