The Editors Guild has recently expressed concern and condemns former Daksh Vice President Nurul Haque Nur, who was accused of aiding in the violation, and called for the boycott of some of his outlets that he did not like, including 71 Television. Members of the organization condemned the statement in a statement signed by Mozammel Babu, chairman of the Publishers Guild, Bangladesh, on Wednesday (October 14).
In a statement, the guild members said that ’71 Television invited him to participate in a talk show about the rape of a Dhaka University student. But he refused to participate. We believe you have that right. But Nur’s efforts on social media to exclude some other media, including television, are by no means acceptable.
Furthermore, it read: ‘Nur has committed a heinous crime by spreading the phone number of the Ekattar TV journalist who contacted him to invite him to the talk show on Facebook. The reactionary fundamentalist cabal now constantly calls that number with obscene statements and threats. Nur’s activities are a threat to the independent media. What you have forgotten is that the media has a huge role behind your identity today.
The statement read: “Nur should apologize for his stance against the media. Otherwise, just as he has called for a boycott of some media, the media may also boycott him.
