Most of the Arab Gulf countries, including Egypt, are trying to find a way to corner Turkey, but most of the Arabs believe that Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey is their best friend.
The results of a recent survey of Arab public opinion have revealed the opposite position of the Arab government and people towards Turkey and President Erdogan.
The survey was conducted in 13 countries in the Arab world.
Fifty-seven percent of those surveyed said that Turkey’s policy in the Middle East was more in the Arab interest than any other. The Palestinian question, and even Turkey’s controversial military intervention in Syria and Libya, has the support of the vast majority of the Arab people.
After Turkey, the attitude of the Arabs towards the Middle East policy of China and Germany is the most positive. Fifty-five percent supported China’s policy, while 52 percent responded positively to Germany’s policy.
On the contrary, the most negative opinion has been expressed about US policy in the Middle East.
The survey was conducted by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Doha and Beirut to find out the attitudes of the Arab population in general on various national, regional and international issues in 13 Arab countries in Asia and Africa.
Sami Hamdi, head of International Interest, a London-based political risk think tank and a Middle East political analyst, said there was no doubt that President Erdogan was becoming more palatable to a large segment of the Arab population than the Turkish state.
Hamdi told BBC Bangla that there was no question that acceptance of Turkey, especially among the general marginalized Arab population, was growing. And the image of President Erdogan is more important than that of the Turkish state in terms of increasing acceptance. Bbc bangla
