Most of the Arab Gulf countries, including Egypt, are trying to find a way to corner Turkey, but most Arabs think that Recep Tayyip Erdogan is Turkey’s biggest sympathizer.

The results of a recent survey of Arab public opinion have revealed the opposite position of the Arab government and people towards Turkey and President Erdogan. The survey was conducted in 13 countries in the Arab world.

Fifty-seven percent of those surveyed said that Turkey’s policy in the Middle East was more in the Arab interest than any other. The Palestinian question, and even Turkey’s controversial military intervention in Syria and Libya, has the support of the majority of Arabs. After Turkey, the attitude of the Arabs towards the Middle East policy of China and Germany is the most positive. Fifty-five percent supported China’s policy, while 52 percent responded positively to Germany’s policy.

On the other hand, the most negative opinion has been expressed about US policy in the Middle East. The survey was conducted by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Doha and Beirut to find out the attitudes of the Arab population in general on various national, regional and international issues in 13 Arab countries in Asia and Africa.

Sami Hamdi, head of International Interest, a London-based political risk think tank and a Middle East political analyst, said there was no doubt that President Erdogan was becoming more palatable to a large segment of the Arab population than the Turkish state. While the rulers of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia and even Saudi Arabia are trying to downplay the Arabs’ traditional Muslim identity and identity, Erdogan is reluctant to promote Muslim identity. It is attracting a lot of people in the Arab world.

Erdogan’s fascination with Turkey is related to the political situation after the Arab Spring. In countries where elections were held after the Arab Spring, including Egypt, Islamists won, but were expelled within days. “Many people are outraged, especially in the case of the Muslim Brotherhood government in Egypt, which has been dragged down and many powerful countries in the world have kept silent about it. They believe there is a conspiracy to prevent a Muslim revival.

People in the Arab world see Erdogan as an Islamist, but he has been able to dominate the politics of democratic Turkey. He has given economic development to his country, increased the country’s military power. Speaking face to face with great powers like the United States, Russia or Europe. Many Arabs are fascinated by this.
