Khaleda Zia was jailed on February 8, 2016 after being sentenced in a corruption case. On March 25 of this year, he was released for six months by executive order of the government. In the circumstances caused by the coronavirus, the government suspended the sentence on humanitarian grounds and released him. Although the six months were supposed to end on September 24, the government extended Khaleda Zia’s release for another six months on September 15. He is staying at ‘Firoza’, a rented house in Gulshan, after being released on the condition that he be treated at home from home and cannot go abroad.
Khaleda Zia, 65, has long suffered from dental and eye problems, arthritis and diabetes. Although he was released, his advanced treatment has yet to begin due to the coronavirus condition. He has a team of team doctors. One or two members of the team are regularly monitoring the physical condition of the BNP chief. In addition, BNP Vice President Prof. A team of senior doctors, including AZM Zahid Hossain, is investigating Khaleda Zia’s health. According to various family and party sources, Khaleda Zia’s party and her family were very careful not to violate the conditions set by the government in the first period of her release. As a result, the government considered extending his release and eventually extended it for another six months. The condition imposed on Khaleda Zia in the first phase was also maintained in the second phase. However, the family is making efforts to reassure the government in various ways to take him abroad for treatment.
According to one source, Khaleda Zia’s ‘uncompromising’ image has already been questioned due to her release by the government. A section of leaders and activists still cannot accept that the party president has been released by the grace of the government rather than the movement or the court. However, his family does not care about this. Relatives want Khaleda Zia’s treatment. In that case, what the party or the party’s supporters want is no longer taken into account.
Speaking at different levels of the BNP, one section claimed that Khaleda Zia will not be going to London at the moment. You don’t want to go abroad on parole. The head of BNP wants to go abroad on a bond from the higher court.

Relatives think that basic treatment for Khaleda Zia is not possible in this country. That is why his brother Shamim Iskander and his sister Selina Islam are in contact with the government to take Khaleda abroad. In this case, relatives who have completely bypassed the party hope that the government will give Khaleda Zia the opportunity to seek treatment abroad.
According to a family source, Khaleda Zia needs to go abroad for better treatment, but no final decision has been made to appeal to the government.
Lawyer Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Khaleda Zia’s lawyer and deputy general secretary of the party, last met her in Firoza on the night of 26 September.
When asked about Khaleda Zia’s physical condition, she told Jago News that Khaleda’s physical condition is bad. Treatment that was done in the hospital is not done at home.
When asked if steps were being taken for his permanent release, he said it was a government matter.
Robert Chatterton Dixon, the UK High Commissioner in Dhaka, recently said that if Khaleda Zia wanted to go to the UK for treatment, there was no obstacle from the government. Through this statement, it was also clear the activism of the foreign party in the court discussion to the relatives with the government about Khaleda Zia’s treatment abroad.
