The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, was arrested on August 5, 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir prior to the repeal of Section 370. Since then he has spent 437 consecutive days in captivity. He was released on Tuesday by the Jammu and Kashmir administration. In Jammu and Kashmir, following the repeal of article 370, most state leaders were taken prisoner. Since then, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah have been released.

Jammu and Kashmir Administration Spokesperson Rohit Kansal tweeted Tuesday night that Mehbooba Mufti was being released.

It can be mentioned that Mehbooba was arrested on August 4, 2019, the day before the repeal of Section 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He is the first political leader in the state to be arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA). At first he was kept in a boarding house in Chashme Shahi. They later took him to another boarding house on MA Link Road. He was eventually placed under house arrest in his own home. His daughter Iltiza Mufti went to the Supreme Court against Mehbooba’s arrest. The last hearing in the case was held on September 29.
