A member of the army was wounded in an armed attack on an army patrol in Naniyarchar, Rangamati. Two of the attackers subsequently died in the counterattack. Rangamati Police Superintendent Alamgir Kabir confirms the matter at 9pm.
According to police sources, at around 4.30 pm on Tuesday, 20-Bir army personnel from the Rangamati Sadar area went to raid a terrorist hideout at Rauf Tila in the Sabikshyang Union of Naniyarchar Upazila. Private Shahabuddin (28) was shot when an army patrol was attacked from another nearby position. Two of the attackers were killed when the army returned fire.
The wounded army member, Shahabuddin, was first taken to the Rangamati Combined Military Hospital (CMH). From there he was flown to Chittagong CMH.
The two dead were members of the UPDF, a regional party in the hills, law enforcement officials said. An AK-22 weapon was recovered from the scene.
