The European Union (EU) is ready to impose sanctions on Russia for its attempt to poison opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
A meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday agreed to impose sanctions, Deutsche Welle reported. During the 26-minute meeting in Luxembourg, they agreed to impose sanctions on Russia.
A week ago, the foreign ministers of Germany and France reported that the Russian government had tried to poison Navalny. They are currently discussing what kind of sanctions will be imposed based on their proposals.
According to Germany and France, it would not have been possible to poison Navalny without the participation of the Russian authorities.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Moss has said that Russia should bear the consequences of the Navalny poisoning. Germany and France want sanctions imposed on some of those responsible.
However, this ban is not being implemented now. Because it will be written before. Legal experts will review the draft. Only then will final sanctions come into force with the consent of the member countries.
