Dhaka: Hatirjheel’s recovered body has been identified in the capital. The deceased was identified as Azizul Islam Mehedi, 24, a student at a private university in Chittagong.

According to his family, Mehedi came to Dhaka from Chittagong to make a passport. He was assassinated shortly after Dala’s capture. Police say an investigation is underway and the matter will be confirmed.

On Monday, police recovered the body of an unidentified man with tied limbs from a lake in Rampura, part of Hatirjheel. The body was later sent to the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) hospital for autopsy.

The deceased was identified as Azizul Islam Mehedi by members of his family at the Dhamek Hospital morgue on Tuesday (October 13). They later went to the Hatijheel police station to file a case in this regard.

Relatives said Azizul Islam Mehedi was the only son of Fakhrul Islam from Bauria village in Sandwip upazila of Chittagong. She is a Master’s student in English at Chittagong International Islamic University.

Mehedi’s relatives came to identify the body and said that Mehedi arrived in Dhaka from Chittagong around 5pm on Saturday (October 10) to discuss the work of making a passport. Later he moved to his friend’s house in the Banasree area. He left his friend’s house on Sunday morning and no trace of Mehdi has been found since. His phone number was also found blocked. Relatives learned of the rescue of the body from the police on Monday. They arrived at the Dhamek morgue on Tuesday and identified the body.

Cousin of Azizul Islam Mehedi assassinated. Shakil told banglanews that in addition to studying, Mehedi used to make passports for acquaintances. If there was a problem in the passport of an acquaintance, he would run to different places and fix it. Mehedi came to Dhaka in search of the passport. I can’t say who killed him like that.

“We got to Dhamma and found that he had been killed by suffocation,” he added. Our idea is that you have come to work for the passport and have fallen into the clutches of runners. For some reason he was killed by the runner. A case is being filed at the Hatirjheel Police Station on behalf of the family, said Shakil, the deceased’s cousin.

Tejgaon Industrial Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Hafiz Al Farooq said: “We are looking at the matter with the utmost importance.” Our investigation is ongoing. I hope the mystery is revealed soon.
